Kayla Armer | Assistant CoachKayla Armer | Assistant Coach

Former HBU setter Kayla Armer returned to her alma mater as assistant volleyball coach in January 2022. Later that year, she was unanimously elected to the HBU Sports Hall of Honor.

Armer was a four-year starter from 2013-16 and finished her career as HBU’s all-time assists leader, ranking among the top 10 in Southland Conference history, with 5,070. She is the only Husky with 5,000-plus assists and ranks fourth all-time in school-history with 10.36 assists per set. All four of her single-season assist totals rank among HBU’s top 15, including ranking seventh all-time at HBU with 1,331 assists as a freshman and ranking eighth all-time and leading the Southland with 1,320 as a senior. She recorded only the second triple-double in HBU history and the first in more than 14 years when she tied her career high with 62 assists and added 11 kills and 11 digs against Lamar on Nov. 1, 2016. Armer was a three-time all-conference selection, earning first-team honors in 2016 and honorable mention in 2014 and 2015. She was also a three-time academic all-conference honoree from 2014-16 and was tabbed CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2014.

Also a standout as a three-year letterwinner in beach volleyball for the Huskies, Armer is tied for fourth in HBU history with 46 career wins. She and Tori Hinojosa rank second all-time with 40 wins as a pair and they qualified for the 2018 U.S. Beach Volleyball Championships.

Armer spent the last three seasons at ULM, where she was the assistant indoor coach and associate head beach coach. In her first indoor season, the Warhawks posted their highest win total since 2015 and a winning record in Sun Belt Conference play.

Armer earned her bachelor of science in psychology from HBU in 2017 and was selected to the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2022.

Katie Valeria is entering her second season as the graduate assistant volleyball coach at HCU. In addition to her coaching experience, she has an extensive graphic design and photography background and  will oversee the Huskies’ social media accounts.

Last year, Valeria was a head coach at Mission Volleyball for a Top 13 National girls’ team. She was also a head coach at Top Flight Volleyball Club and assisted with camps in the Midwest at the University  of Wisconsin, Judson University, Top Flight, and area high schools. Since her move to Texas she has assisted at Houston Stellar, Texas Tornados, Texas Fury, Houston Skyline, Third Coast Beach Volleyball, and several high schools within Houston area.  

A Dodgeville, Wisconsin, native, Valeria was a four-time team captain, who led Judson University to two NCCAA National Championship appearances, both times making the All-Tournament Team as a middle  blocker. The Eagles made it all the way to the Final Four twice, finishing as the national runner-up in 2019. Valeria was a five-time CCAC All-Conference selection, including four first-team honors, a five-time NCCAA Division I North Central All-Regional First  Team selection, three-time AVCA & NAIA Mideast All-Region honorable mention and two-time NCCAA Division I All-American. Valeria finished her career with 1,587 kills, which ranks second all-time in school history, 484 total blocks (3rd all-time), 181 service  aces (3rd all-time) and set the school record with 658 consecutive sets played. 

In addition to her accolades on the court, she made the CCAC and NCCAA All-Academic/Scholar Athlete Team and was twice nominated for Judson’s Female Athlete of the Year. 

Valeria earned a bachelor of arts in art and graphic design from Judson in 2021 and is working toward a Master of business administration at HCU.
